Strassen

Enjoy idyllic landscapes

Beautifully situated on a hill in Hochpustertal Valley, the town of Strassen nestles against the idyllic landscape. Here, where the road branches off to the Tyrolean Gail and Lesachtal, the townscape is dominated by rustic farmsteads, sacral buildings and many small businesses. Strassen is a classic scattered settlement, i.e. the settlement area spreads across the valley floor and the sunny slopes likewise. On a hill, the St. John’s Church impressively watches over Strassen, further down in the village the beautiful Trinity Church rises up in the air. However, if you also want to enjoy the nature and the unique landscape that surround Strassen, there are only too many possibilities in this municipality in Hochpustertal Valley.

In the warm months you can experience utmost relaxation and deceleration in the recreational area around Tassenbach reservoir. Ducks swim on the lake, dip their heads into the water and then tear them back to heaven. Along the banks there are numerous wooden benches, each of them providing a unique view. Not far from this gem of nature is the well-known Drau Cycle Path, which runs through the municipality of Strassen to Lienz and then on to Carinthia. In addition, Strassen has several, varied mountain bike routes. Even campers can easily visit this town, thanks to the campsite "Lienz Dolomites" in the immediate vicinity of the recreational area on Tassenbach reservoir.

In winter, the ski resort Skizentrum Hochpustertal, just a few minutes away from Strassen, attracts skiers to its fantastic pistes. The small but beautiful ski resort Dorfberg in Kartitsch, where night skiing is offered, is also not far Strassen. The magnificent nature and unique winter landscape around the village can be admired in full splendour on a wild-romantic snowshoe hike or on the cross-country ski trail that leads across the border to South Tyrol.
