Sillian

Vacation resort in Osttirol's Pustertal Valley

Located right on the border with Italy, Sillian is one of the largest communities in Osttirol and is also the main town in East Pustertal. This enticing vacation and excursion destination is located directly at the foot of the Thurntaler, which rises majestically at 2400 meters. To the south, Sillian is bordered by the Carnic ridge. The western border of the municipality also forms the national border between Austria and Italy.

On the sunny slopes north of the Drau River, the beautiful parish church of the Assumption watches over the town centre, and the ‘Queen of the Puster Valley’, Heinfels Castle, can also be seen to the east. The town is not only visually appealing, but also offers a wide range of leisure activities. And with the Osttirol guest card, you can enjoy most of these activities free of charge during your stay.

Sillian in winter

When winter arrives in Osttirol, and thus also in Sillian, a very special time begins. On the ice rinks in the village, whether in the village centre or in the modern ice arena, young and old alike glide across the ice with great joy. Ski fans also get their money's worth: the versatile Sillian-Hochpustertal ski centre on the Thurntaler leaves nothing to be desired with its varied slopes. The Winterwichtelland in Sillian is a real highlight for families. With lovingly designed winter worlds, fun activities for children and a fairytale atmosphere, it offers fun and unforgettable moments for young and old alike.

But the Hochpustertal has even more to offer, especially for those who want to enjoy winter away from the slopes. Ski tours in the Villgratental lead along well-marked routes through quiet, snow-covered landscapes, ideal for tourers in search of peace and nature. And for those who want to stand at the biathlon shooting range like real professionals, this wish becomes reality at the Biathlon Centre Obertilliach.

Sillian in summer

During the summer months, the so-called Family Nest Programme is also very popular. Every week, attractive activities take place under the supervision of pedagogically trained childcare workers. The ‘Wichtelzug’ takes children to various adventure sites, such as the Wichtelpark Sillian. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are countless possibilities in Sillian.

The well-known and popular Drau Cycle Path runs along the refreshingly cool riverbank through the market town. Beautiful huts, such as the Sillianer Hütte or the Leckfeldhütte, invite you to take a cosy break at lofty heights. Our tip: With the Osttirol Card, you can visit the Wichtelpark (excluding the high ropes course) and Heinfels Castle every day and use the Hochpustertal mountain railways.
