Reducing the ecological footprint

A good 75 percent of the CO2 footprint of a vacation trip is attributable to the journey to and from the destination

Finally a vacation, finally out of the city. The longing for experiences in nature, the need for peace and quiet and the joy of idyllic mountain landscapes are driving more and more people to the mountains on a regular basis. According to the World Travel Monitor, nature vacations are the third most popular type of vacation among Germans. But what is good for people is not always good for nature. The biggest part of the ecological footprint of mountain sports is still the journey. However, this can be significantly reduced by using public transport.

This is exactly where Osttirol supports its guests. True to the motto "more responsibility for the earth does not mean less fun when traveling", the tourism region offers its guests a green service. To this end, Osttirol has taken part in the EU's "LAST MILE" project, which focuses on innovative and flexible solutions for sustainable regional mobility. Particular attention is being paid to the last stage of a journey, which should be completed without a car. In addition to free use of public transport with the guest card, Osttirol also offers its guests the option of using an electric car. And if you want to reduce your ecological footprint even further on vacation, leave your car at home, travel by train to the mobility center in Lienz and hop into one of the e-cars there. Osttirol has also established itself as an e-bike destination. For that extra boost, the tourism association has set up a comprehensive network of e-bike charging stations in cooperation with the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern. With the e-bike, as a feeder to climbing and mountaineering, the Osttirol mountains are at your feet.
